Aftercare:
Taking care of your new tattoo is just as important as getting it. Proper aftercare ensures your tattoo heals well, looks its best for years to come, and keeps your skin healthy throughout the healing process. Below, I’ve outlined simple, step-by-step instructions so you’ll know exactly how to care for your tattoo from day one.
Adhesive Bandage Aftercare: (Saniderm/Tegaderm)
•Leave first bandage on for 3–4 days.
• Remove bandage in a steamy shower.
• Slowly peel adhesive bandage to loosen adhesion.
• After removal:
• Wash hands thoroughly.
• Wash tattoo gently with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap.
• Pat dry with a disposable paper towel and let air dry.
• Switch to recommended ointment or lotion for continued healing.
Traditional Aftercare:
• Remove bandage after minimum one hour, max three. Do not rewrap.
• Wash hands thoroughly.
• Wash tattoo twice a day with warm water and an antibacterial, unscented soap. Recommended soaps: Soft Soap, Dial Gold, or any unscented antibacterial option.
• Pat dry with disposable paper towel and let air dry. Do not use wash cloth, bath towel, or beach towels.
• Once dry, apply a super thin layer of a recommended aftercare ointment. Recommended: Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, Recovery Aftercare, Mad Rabbit, Tattoo Goo.
• Repeat this process until skin begins to peel.
• Once peeling, switch to a white unscented lotion. Recommend
DO NOT:
•Do NOT pick at peels or scabs as ink may fall out or fade. • Do NOT soak tattoo: avoid baths, hot tubs, pools, oceans, lakes, rivers, ponds, or any body of water for two weeks.
• Avoid direct sunlight. After healing, always apply SPF 50 or higher.
• Avoid working out and gym equipment for the first week (sweat may cause infections).
• A tattoo is a wound, so please treat it as such.
• In the event of any severe reactions or infection, seek medical attention immediately
REMOVE EARLY IF:
• Bandage rolls up and exposes tattoo.
• Excess ink/fluids break the seal of the bandage.
• Irritation or blistering occurs around bandage.
